Nigeria/Congo Qualifier: Amiesimaka hails Siasia for assembling a formidable, quality team

Ex-Green Eagles’ ace winger Adokiye Amiesimaka says the Nigeria/Congo Olympic qualifier played on Sunday in the stadium named after him in Port Harcourt was “90 minutes of tension for me’’.

Amiesimaka said in Port Harcourt after the match that being the first international match in a complex named after him, it was as if he was playing the game.  “In the course of the game, it was as if the entire burden, expectations of every football loving Nigerian was on my shoulders.  “It was so because it was the first international match being played in a stadium named after me.  “So, it was quite 90 minutes of tension. It was like I was also one of the players or technical crew.  “One felt the pressure. I am really grateful to God that the outcome was very positive. At the end of the day, I received a lot of congratulatory messages,’’ he told NAN after the match.  Amiesimaka praised Coach Sampson Siasia for assembling a formidable and quality team.  “Although the score line was in favour of Nigeria, it did not reflect the dominance of the dream team. But it was win, a deserved win,’’ he said.  He said the performance of the Dream Team was very commendable.  “I saw in the players a sense of professionalism that is rare to find in our teams, at least in the recent times.  “Commitment to a cause, one could see from the beginning of the game till the end that they played with a sense of purpose.  “I am making this point to encourage them to continue in that spirit,’’ Amiesimaka said.  He noted that the team was calm, committed and focused on the assignment they had.  He commended Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, for accepting to host the match at short notice, stressing that it had shown that the stadium was capable of hosting international matches.  The ex-international also commended the former governor of the state, Chibuike Amaechi, for naming the stadium after him and for the people of the state for accepting the decision.  “I am on top of the world that the international match was played in a stadium named after me and that Nigeria won,’’ he said.
